My name is Regean Sutton. I am 13 years old and I’m currently a second form student of the Excelsior High School. In January of 2018, I went to Pittsburg in the United States to partake in a National robotics competition, called The First Lego League Robotics Championship (FLL).
The experience was very inspiring and informative. We learned how to build autonomous robots, do case studies and research as well as explore our creativity to actively solve problems that exist in our communities. My team and I worked assiduously and with the help of coaching staff, the former FLL participants Zachery Chen and Dylan Chin, we were able to successfully build a robot using coding.
The entire trip was amazing, we even got the chance to visit the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University. I am truly proud to be apart of this initiative and really appreciate the opportunity that was offered to me. I got the ability to not just be apart of a competition that is internationally renowned, but to also do so and with members of my country. The sense of nationalism made me proud. I even got the opportunity to see snow and travel to places I have never imagined.
I would say that this opportunity has been highly impactful in my life and was a catalyst for my deep love for technology. I would love to give a big thank you to the Seprod Foundation who made this possible, along with my alma mata North Street Primary, my parents and grandmother, the FLL participants and organizers and my team mates.
I look forward to an initiative like this again.
